Sometimes coming up with costume ideas is easy, and sometimes it seems absurdly difficult. For kids it is often relatively simple to get them a costume. Often they will see something in a movie or read something in a book and decide that’s what they want to be. Adults often have a harder time with this.

Adults can spend a long time trying to think up the perfect costume idea. It can be more difficult for them because they want to avoid clichés, and they certainly don’t want to show up in the same costume as someone else. But at the same time, adults have a lot of crafty resources they can draw upon to think up a great costume.

If you are having trouble thinking up a costume idea for yourself or your child, one place many people do not think to look is in pattern catalogs. At fabric stores you can always find books that show all the costumes you can buy patterns to make. Even if you don’t want to make your costume, this can be a great place to find a costume idea in peace.
